LK-99, superconductivity at room temperature.

The material called LK-99 is a crystal structure of modified lead apatite. Synthesized by the solid-state method. The material exhibits an ohmic metallic characteristic above the critical temperature of superconductivity, and the phenomenon of levitation as the Meissner effect of a superconductor at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. The material has a polycrystalline hexagonal structure based on the modification of lead-containing apatite. The authors of the study claim that the critical temperature of a superconductor (that is, the temperature to which it retains superconductivity) is 400 K (127 °C).


For the first time in the world, it was possible to synthesize a room temperature superconductor (Tc ≥ 400 K, 127 oC) operating at atmospheric pressure with a modified lead-apatite structure (LC-99). The superconductivity of LC-99 is proved by the critical temperature (Tc), zero resistivity, critical current (Ic), critical magnetic field (Hc) and the Meissner effect. The superconductivity of LK-99 occurs due to a slight structural distortion due to a small volume shrinkage (0.48%), and not due to external factors such as temperature and pressure. Shrinkage is caused by the substitution of Cu2+ Pb2+(2) ions in the Pb(2)-phosphate insulating grid and causes stress. At the same time, it passes into Pb(1) of the cylindrical column, which leads to distortion of the cylindrical column interface, which creates superconducting quantum wells on the interface. The results on the heat capacity showed that the new model is suitable for explaining the superconductivity of LC-99. The unique structure of LK-99, which allows maintaining the smallest distorted structure at the interface, is the most important factor due to which LK-99 retains and exhibits superconductivity at room temperatures and atmospheric pressure.
